The Lou Is Born

Hello everyone and welcome to The Lou! The only place where you can truly, Get The Lou Down. My name is Leah McCormack, but my family nickname has been Lou since I was a little girl. When I went off to fashion school in NYC, my dad used to say, “Little Lou goes to the big city”. It caught on with my Instagram handle, @LeahLou_McC and my freelance writing and styling business, Leah Lou Stylings. All of which finally led me to create my very own corner of the internet world, The Lou. Is the web already over saturated with lifestyle, fashion, beauty, travel and food online magazines? The answer is yes. But do I still need to pursue it? The answer is also yes.

I grew up in the quaint New England town of Meredith, New Hampshire in the Lakes Region, where Lake Winnipesaukee was the inspiration for my dog care business, Winni Pups. Another passion, another side business you ask? Yes, I am a true gemini with many interests and at last, I accept that. Growing up, my free time was spent helping my grandmother pick out new paint colors, sifting through auctions, flea markets and thrift stores and helping my mother renovate, design and furnish a Floridian condo on a budget.

The women in my family were always teaching me how to train my keen eye for design and use it in the real world. After turning down my acceptance to the Savannah College of Art and Design down in Georgia, I went on to pursue my bachelors degree at the Fashion Institute of Technology in midtown Manhattan instead. I worked many seasons of New York Fashion Week and went on to work in buying, merchandising, styling, editorial and trend forecasting for Rue La La, Wayfair and WGSN.

With all of my experiences and travel for work, there was only one thing missing. The freedom to live where I wanted, whenever I wanted. The freedom to be my own boss and promote content I knew would engage my audience. The freedom to create my own brand.

I hope you enjoy catching up on The Lou as much as I enjoy creating it!

xx Leah Lou
